Online and In-Clinic Mental Health Therapy

Life presents us with numerous challenges and crises, and we often feel the need for professional help to cope with feelings of loneliness, lack of belonging, or depression. Online mental health therapy provides a convenient and accessible solution for people wherever they are, whether domestically or abroad.

Therapy enables us to explore and understand our emotions and personal patterns, and to discover our inner strengths for coping with challenges. Through a therapeutic approach that focuses on listening and inner observation, it's possible to create a safe and containing space where we can work on changing thought patterns and develop tools for dealing with life's challenges.

Individual Mental Health Therapy Online and In-Clinic

In life, we often face crises and pain. The request for mental health help may stem from the need to find something we have lost or to achieve a feeling that no longer exists. Feelings of distress, meaninglessness, or anxiety can accompany the journey of self-discovery. Psychotherapy, particularly a relational approach that incorporates Buddhist elements, can help us discover our inner strengths.

Through self-observation and introspection, we can uncover emotions and patterns that were previously invisible to us. This therapy enables the creation of a safe, non-judgmental space filled with human compassion.

Together, we will work on processing and changing thought patterns, and support processes of change and personal growth while balancing feelings of pain and suffering.

I offer individual sessions at my clinic in Amsterdam or through Zoom.

Individual Therapy - The Beginning

Mental health therapy usually begins with a problem, pain, or feeling stuck, dealing with anxiety, depression, or intrusive thoughts, but it does not necessarily have to. Therapy can also begin with the desire to embark on a new path that is more precise and whole. Whether the difficulties directly affect daily functioning or are expressed more through internal suffering and physical symptoms, from this point we begin the journey - understanding you and the meaning and needs in your life, analyzing what happened in the past, and finding ways that are suitable for you to lead to change in the present and future.

What is My Treatment Method?

In therapy, I integrate a relational approach, Buddhist psychology, and behavioral approaches. This combination fosters a simple human connection, instills a belief in a person's ability to free themselves from suffering, and provides tools to work with at home as well. I use various tools tailored to each client's needs, aiming to alleviate difficulty, pain, and frustration while enhancing feelings of satisfaction, joy, and meaning.

Online Mental Health Therapy

Although not in the same physical space, the sessions facilitate a good connection and meaningful work. We prepare together, setting aside an hour of quiet, sitting comfortably, and focusing on the virtual meeting. After years of experience, I have come to realize that the screen is often quickly forgotten, and the results can be far-reaching.

FAQ

When should I seek psychological treatment?

When to Seek Therapy

First of all, it's essential to remember that timely treatment can prevent significant suffering and make therapy more effective and shorter. Second, even with uncertainty about whether now is the right time for therapy, you can reach out to a professional for consultation.

Several points can guide you and help you understand whether it's time to seek therapy:

  • When you feel persistent psychological suffering and feelings such as depression, anxiety, or extreme mood states that interfere with your daily functioning for an extended period.

  • After a traumatic experience or a significant stress event in your life, you're having difficulty overcoming it alone.

  • If you're going through significant changes or transitions in life and are struggling to adapt to these changes.

  • When you have harmful thought patterns or behaviors that you're struggling to change on your own. For example, situations involving addiction or compulsive behavior that repeat themselves.

Why online therapy?

Online Mental Health Therapy is Just as Effective as In-Clinic Therapy

Online mental health therapy is an effective alternative to face-to-face treatment. Online sessions can easily integrate into the intensity of life and allow meetings from anywhere at a convenient time. Online sessions save significant time since there's no need for travel and waiting, which makes it easier for clients and can shorten the duration of treatment.

Beyond time savings, online mental health therapy enables you to select a therapist who suits your needs from anywhere in the country or the world. Some clients may even feel more comfortable opening up to a new person through the safe space of their computer. However, like any therapy, online therapy also has disadvantages and concerns that arise. We will discuss all of them.

Nevertheless, the central and meaningful part of therapy—the conversation and shared exploration—takes place without problems through the screen as well. During therapy, we can examine what feels comfortable for us and what feels less so in the online meeting format. However, after a brief adjustment period, it's incredible to discover how quickly we forget that we haven't met in person.

How long does the treatment last?

Duration of Psychotherapy Treatment

The duration of psychotherapy treatment is determined by the nature of the problem the client presents with, combined with the chosen therapeutic approach. In behavioral approaches for more focused issues, treatment may last 3 months to a year, sometimes longer. In cases of more complex phenomena that affect broad areas of life and impair functioning, the process will be more extended. Except for the most complicated cases, relief and improvement can be expected within the first months of treatment. Of course, in psychodynamic and analytic therapy, which accompanies the person at all levels, the treatment has no estimated completion time.

It's essential to remember that the duration of treatment also depends primarily on the client's choice, and this should be discussed and addressed with the therapist at every stage of treatment. Open and transparent dialogue regarding the expected and desired duration of treatment is essential for achieving improvement.

As an experienced therapist, I strive to assess the expected treatment duration for each client individually, according to their unique needs and situation, and to involve the client in the decision-making process regarding the continuation of treatment.
